We share expert tips for a successful growing season.
Proper Planting for Long-Term Success
Before Planting
- Saturate the root ball with water and allow it to sit overnight.
Digging the Hole
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot base.
- Depth should be 1.5 times the pot depth.
- Keep the top 3–4 inches of sod/topsoil separate.
Mix excavated soil with a pinch of potash before backfilling.
Setting the Tree
- Position so the root ball sits 1 inch above the surrounding soil level.
- Backfill halfway, add water, let soak, then complete filling.
- Create a circular soil dam to retain water.
Watering
- Once weekly for the first two growing seasons
- Fill the watering well and allow a full soak
Mulch with 3–4 inches of leaves, but keep the mulch 3 inches away from the trunk base to prevent rodent damage.
